42. A carbonized leaf of a plant belonging to the Pteridaceae family attached to an axis.
Pteridaceae is a family of ferns. "Pinna" is the part of the leaf attached to the main axis of the fern leaf. In this example, the charred remains of that part are preserved. It belongs to the end of the Cretaceous era, the Paleogene - Neogene (56 - 33.9 million years ago) period of the Koinozoic era.
