International Mother Language Day was celebrated at NSU

February 21 - International Mother Language Day was organized by the "Azerbaijani linguistics" chair of Nakhchivan State University. The event was attended by the chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the university Nicat Yagubov, faculty and students.

Speaking at the event, Nijat Yagubov spoke about the importance of the history of the International Mother Language Day. He emphasized that language is one of the main factors in protecting the national identity and cultural heritage of the people. Nijat Yagubov spoke about the measures implemented in the direction of the development and protection of the Azerbaijani language as a state language and noted the importance of scientific research conducted in this field at the university. href="https://ndu.edu.az/az/emekdaslar/sadaqat-hasanova" class="employee-link" title="Sadaqat Hasanova profile">Sadaqat Hasanova emphasized that our language is our spiritual identity and noted that only 130 of the 7,000 languages in the world are spoken by more than one million people. The number of national languages ​​is approximately 70. The Azerbaijani language is the mother tongue of about 31 million people and ranks 20-25 according to its prestige in the world.

Head of the "Azerbaijani Linguistics" chair of the university, doctor of philology, who talks about the unity of language and culture, docent Elbrus Valiyev pointed out that the International Mother Language Day was established by UNESCO in 1999 and is celebrated every year on February 21. This day has been celebrated all over the world since 2000.

At the end of the event, students' artistic recitations were heard.
