However, in the first years, our country faced many difficulties. As a result of the selfless work of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power in Azerbaijan for the second time at the insistence of the people in 1993, our state independence was strengthened in the following years, and the role and prestige of our country among the world nations increased. As a result of the successful, purposeful domestic and foreign policy conducted by President Ilham Aliyev, the worthy follower of the Great Leader, Azerbaijan has become stronger and has become the leading state of the region. As a result of our glorious historic victory in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander, the territorial integrity and state sovereignty of our country have been fully restored. On October 15, 2021, the Milli Majlis approved the new Law "On Independence Day" at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev. According to the law, May 28 is declared Independence Day, and October 18 is Independence Restoration Day, and this date is not an ordinary date on the calendar, but a day of exceptional importance in the history of Azerbaijan.
