The 120th anniversary of Ali Aliyev, the teacher of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the first rector of Nakhchivan State University, was celebrated.

Before the event guests visited the grave of candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Ali Aliyev in Nakhchivan city cemetery and laid a wreath on behalf of Nakhchivan State University. Academician pointed out that Ali Aliyev worked as the Commissioner of Public Education of the Nakhchivan MSSR in 1941-1947, the Minister of Education of the Nakhchivan MSSR, and as the secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Nakhchivan MSSR in 1951-1967. Then, in 1967-1970, he emphasized that he was the organizer and first director of the Nakhchivan branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (now Nakhchivan State University). The academician said that the role of the historian was very important in the historical, social, political and cultural life of Nakhchivan.
