Pagiophyllum first appeared in the Late Triassic period (about 235 - 201 million years ago), dominated the Jurassic period (Middle and Late Jurassic) and the Lower Cretaceous period (about 175 - 100 million years ago), and during the Upper Cretaceous period (with the wide spread of angiosperms), representatives of Pagiophyllum disappeared completely at the end of the Mesozoic.
