Historian-scientist Ilber Ortayli in Nakhchivan: "I wish I had more time and could study all historical archive materials in Nakhchivan"

The well-known Turkish historian-scientist, honorary member of the Turkish Historical Society, writer Ilbar Ortayl is visiting Nakhchivan on September 20-23 with the organization and invitation of Nakhchivan State University. During a walk in the center, the uniqueness of the underground treatment center created in the salt mines, walls covered with salt layers  , made a rich impression on the scientist. At the same time, his attention was drawn to the handicrafts made by Nakhchivan artisans from rock salt.

The valuable scientist in the 18th century "Khan Palace" State History-Architecture Museum located in the "Ajami Sightseeing" Cultural and Recreation Complex in the city of Nakhchivan admired the original architectural style of the palace. He was particularly interested in the personal belongings of the Khans of Nakhchivan, as well as other exhibitors. While looking at the historical photos, Professor Ilbar Ortayl got acquainted with Kangarli photos. The valuable scientist emphasized that the Kangarlis are a well-known tribe in the history of Nakhchivan and said that he recognized Fikret Bey Kangarli among the historical photos. He noted that "I wish I had more time and could study all the historical archival materials in Nakhchivan."

In addition to the historical monuments in Nakhchivan, professor Ilbar Ortayli, who was visiting Julfa district, also visited the medieval tomb of Sufi scientist, poet, philosopher Fazlullah Naimi, who founded the Hurufian sect, located near Khanegah village. Also Amirkhan tomb was built on the eastern slope of the Alinca fortress dating back to the 15th century. The wonderful beauty of the village and its preserved historical monuments attracted his attention. He also noted that these lands have produced personalities throughout history. 

During the walk, the professor visited Sarshaher Square, one of the ancient neighborhoods of Ordubad city, and got to know the mosque of the same name, the spring, the houses and other buildings that contain the history of that square. Ilber Ortaylı said that he longed to be in Ordubad. Historian-scientist: "Today, sitting under an old plane tree and standing surrounded by houses that reflect the historical heritage, of course, gives a person nostalgic feelings.
